About the Ludlow Sausage Company

The roots of The Ludlow Sausage Company grew out of the Ludlow Marches Food and Drink Festival, which was first held in September 1995 and with which we've been involved since it began. From small beginnings - a hall in the college and a Farmers' Market in the square on the Sunday - the Food Festival has become a landmark event on the gourmet calendar. It attracted over 20,000 visitors this year.

The Sausage Trail, an annual competition in which Ludlow's butchers each create a brand new sausage variety and compete for the People's Choice and the Experts' Choice awards, is an integral part of the Festival. The Trail sees well over a thousand people stroll round the town, sampling sausages and voting for their favourite.

Ludlow is an unusual market town. Not only will you find more Michelin-starred restaurants in Ludlow than you'll find anywhere else in the UK outside London, you'll find five quality butchers - all independent, all providing quality meats, sourced and killed locally, all making some of the finest traditional sausages and selling bacon like it used to be. We're lucky - we live in Ludlow, and can wander round the town's butchers whenever we like.

It struck us in 2001 that none of Ludlow's butchers were offering a mail-order service - so we came up with the idea of the Ludlow Sausage Company. Then we talked to Advantage West Midlands, who gave us some financial support, and started work.

We've been refining our basic idea and believe we provide an efficient and cost-effective mail-order service. You can enjoy fine sausages and bacon from Ludlow, wherever you are in the UK. As we like to say: "You're never that far from a Ludlow Sausage!"
